Mentzer Stands with Senate as Limbo Nine Bills Pass

LANSING, Mich., Sept. 10, 2026 — The Michigan Senate has passed Senate Bills 11331135, the companion bills to a house package including state Rep. Denise Mentzer’s (D-Mt. Clemens) HB 6234 that creates a pathway for eligible corrections officers to join the Michigan State Police Retirement System, helping improve recruitment and retention. The bill is one of the “Limbo Nine” measures that were reintroduced after prolonged litigation and months of delay. Mentzer released the following statement in response:

“Workers need our support, especially now as many face a growing affordability crisis. Our corrections workers in particular already face morale and staffing issues, along with mandatory overtime and growing safety concerns. In this time of economic uncertainty, the least we can do is provide security and stability in retirement by allowing corrections officers to join Michigan’s Police Retirement System. This is what supporting workers looks like, and I stand with my colleagues in the Senate on the need to get this important legislation done.”
